Itinerary for Dandie Derby 2026

Dandie Derby Weekend 5-7th June

Friday 5th June. Meet at Bowhill TD7 5ET

13.30-1400 hrs and have a stroll down to the plaque via the Old Pepper trail see below back to the Courtyard cafe for a cuppa and a natter The plan then was to head back up to Selkirk and have wander round, there are various places open for meals etc. The Fleece with historic ties to the Dandie and Tibbies’ on the Square whose owner is the producer of the Dandie Dinmont Gin ..and the Selkirk Distillers shop on the square where it can be purchased.

Saturday 6th race day

Farmers market in the square in Selkirk .. The Dandie Derby will have a stall. Meet at Old Ginger at the Haining TD7 5LR at 1pm for a walk around Haining Loch and back to the house to register for the races and a group photo for 6626 Dandie Day ( The Fleece and Tibbies will be open on for lunch ) Granny Dee’s coffee hut will be at The Haining from about 1300 hrs they will be at the market in the morning

Classes available

Young Ginger race …. up to and one year old on the day

Piper Allan’s tootle … one to three years old on the day

Meg merrilees gallop …..Three to seven years old on the day

Old pepper’s Stravaig …..7 and upwards

The Old Pretender visiting dogs that are impersonating Dandies (Unfortunately dont qualify for overall prize )

Rosettes to fourth place prizes fro First in their heat and an amazing cup kindly donated by the Dandie Dinmont Club for the fastest on 4 paws

There will be a raffle

Saturday Night at Selkirk Rugby Club for dinner TD7 5AX

Starter choices ….

Smooth chicken Liver Pate on a bed of mixed leaves with Oatcakes

Tomato and Sweet Pepper soup

Scottish Lentil laced with baked ham

( All served with a mini baked roll and Butter Portion )

Mains

Roast Border Beef carved and topped with a rich gravy and a Yorkie

Breast of Chicken stuffed with local Haggis wrapped in Bacon ,served with a rich whisky sauce

Brie and Beetroot Tart

(All served with Baby Potatoes and Seasonal Vegetables )

Desserts

White Chocolate and Raspberry Cheesecake, served with a rich coulis

Lemon tart

Apple Crumble , Served with Ice Cream

Dandieathlon a second chance for all those Dandies to show their paces .. Time circuits with handicaps for ages all good fun and Lunch in the Borders Hotel ..if desired .. menus will be available at the end of May but general pub lunch after lunch a walk round Kirk Yetholm which is steeped in Dandie History
